Nellis Base Visit!

Well, I got back from Vegas last night...It was awesome! We had so much fun...

First of all, I don’t have any pictures yet (silly me, I didn’t take any...a lot of other people did and I’ll have to get them to put them on the board, anyway, I’ll get them eventually)...where was I...oh yeah, I don’t have any pictures yet, but you can go to this little PhotoShow and see some pictures that one of the cadets put together.

Ok, back to what we did...I remembered that I was going on this Nellis Base Visit, oh, about Monday...when I got the e-mail letting us know details about the trip...ok, so I’ve been a little occupied lately. It’s all good though, I made every deadline and I’m glad I wasn’t able to back out.

Wednesday night we took our garment bag, with uniform, to the Det. so that we could check and make sure that we didn’t forget to pack anything. We also got the information about the tip.

Thursday, silly me, I woke up with a migraine. It was disgusting! It was miserable, I had it all day...ick! At any rate, we left at 6PM Thursday night for the airport--our flight left a 8:30 or something like that. We didn’t get into Las Vegas until really late, I think it was something like midnight, getting us to the base and our rooms around 1:30AM. I was so exhausted!

Friday we got up really early, we all had to be out and ready to go to breakfast at 7AM! It was so early, ugh! The worst thing was that they gave us an hour and a half to eat breakfast (we were all very done after a under an hour) and we all wished that we had had that extra half hour of sleep. :) It was ok though...we had an awesome tour of the base! It started with the Threat Training Facility where they keep a few examples of enemy equipment: Anti-Air Artillery, Helicopters, Tanks, etc. After that we got to see several other really cool things, like the briefing room and training facility for Red Flag, the control tower, and the Predator hanger (Predator is the UAV that we’re working on, for those of you who don’t know). We also got to see the Air Force Thunderbird hanger. It was really cool! After that we got to spend the night on the Vegas Strip. It was cool, slightly disappointing, but still nice...I mean there aren’t a whole lot of things for people under the age of 21 to do, but we still had a nice time walking everywhere. Again, we didn’t get back to our rooms until really late and I didn’t get to sleep until about 2AM.

Saturday was yet another very long day. Again we got up early, this time at 7AM and headed out. We checked out of the Inn, ate breakfast, and slept on the way to Hoover Damn. We spend a good chunk of time at the damn that morning, we got to take the tour...go down in the damn a little ways and everything. After that we went to this little town and ate lunch at a Mexican Food restaurant, it was very good, not the best, but better than I’ve had in quite a while. From there we caught the plane back to Boston. It was really nice, we had a hundred mile an hour tale wind, so we got in about an hour early and made I made it home around midnight.

Over all it was an awesome trip and I’m very glad I did it! I’ll try to post pictures when I get them, but I don’t know that I’ll have time with finals and all.
