Oh man has this been a hard secret to hold onto . . . Daddy called me up about a month and a half ago and asked if I was missing them and feeling homesick — of course I told him I was. Then he asked me if Mommy had told me that Jenny (old friend from high school) was getting married — of course she hadn’t. I was quite surprised . . . not that Jenny and Jarrett were getting married, but that Mommy hadn’t told me! At any rate, after Daddy told me that they were getting married, he asked me if I wanted to come home for it — and of course I did! Daddy bought the tickets and told me not to tell Mommy, it would be a surprise.
For two months! I had to keep it from Mommy for two months!
Aside from the fact that Daddy didn’t have a plan for picking me up from the airport until the afternoon I was scheduled to arrive the surprise went very smoothly : )
We had a little issue a week or so ago . . . originally, we only told a handful of people — Frank (family friend and Mommy’s best friend’s husband), Aunt Annie, Melody (Jenny’s mom) and Mitch/Audrey (another set of family friends). Frank was under strict orders not to tell Judi (Mommy’s best friend) about me coming . . . she posed too many risks . . . At any rate, Frank had forgotten exactly what weekend it was, but when Judi started talking about going to Truckee for the weekend he called Daddy right away. Apparently, Mommy and Judi were planning on going to an arts fair in Truckee the weekend I was going to be here! And Mommy never told Daddy! As it turned out, Frank had to tell Judi . . . but she was really good and Mommy never found out!
Thursday night Daddy told Mommy that he had a meeting at 8pm and that he would see her in the morning (she goes to bed at 9pm cause she gets up really early for work). Apparently, Mommy was confused, but went to bed anyway . . . at 10pm, when daddy and I got home, Oso (the dog) met us at the door and started barking at me! It took him a bit to realize it was me, but once he did, he was quite excited . . . then we heard Mommy stirring (she had hears some female voice) and waited for her to come out. When she walked around the corner between the hall and the front door, she got this big surprised look on her face! It was awesome! I almost can’t believe that she didn’t hear about it . . . but really, it’s easy to keep a secret when you only tell five people.
