Freedom Feast...wow, don't think I've ever heard that term outside of Iowa.
Freedom Feast was always fun when I was a kid. There is usually a marathon / walk during the festival, and I have many of the free t-shirts. It starts from May's Island, a big island in the middle of the Cedar River.
There are always famous bands that come and play on the island lawn, and everyone piles onto the bridges to watch the fireworks on the fourth.

(last time I checked only Cedar Rapids, Paris and some random Japanese city have their city hall on an island in the middle of a river)
The streets are lined with food and drink stalls. The strawberry smoothies and buffalo burgers are highly recommended.
I'm planning on being back for the 4th, as it is my mom's b-day, but I don't know if I'll be in town on the 20th. You could poke Clare.
