Science vs. Politics

Needless to say where I stand on this particular statement . . . but right now I'm not thinking in terms of personality, goals, activities, or probably anything you're thinking of.

I'm talking money!

Ok, maybe you were thinking about money . . . it is disgusting how much more money it seems that we throw into politics than science. But that's not what I'm thinking of either . . .

I'm talking pictures on money!

That's right . . . why is it that just about every country has scientists on their money and in the good-old US of A we have politicians? I mean, yes, we do have a couple of scientists on our money . . . but they were also politicians . . . big name politicians, known much more for their politics than science (well, except for the whole key on a kite thing)

• Thomas Jefferson, 2 United States Dollars (1976)

At any rate, it's despicable! Look at all these different Banknotes featuring Scientists and Mathematicians!! And all we get is 2 . . . and it's debatable if they were chosen for scientific or political reasons.

I mean . . . look at Google: http://www.google.com/. Oh yeah, they change every day . . . but really, they celebrate scientists: today is Hans Christian Ørsted's Birthday and Google gave him his own logo! And he got to be on the Danish 100 kroner note . . .
