How long did Sleeping Beauty sleep after pricking her finger on that dreadful spinning wheel?
After about 6 hours the voting tally was:
0 for less than a day
2 for 1 year
9 for 50 years
24 for 100 years &
4 for more than 100 years.
At that point it was brought to my attention that there are several different versions of the story...Grimm's, Disney's, Perrault's, Basile's, etc. So I decided to throw those votes out (sorry dudes!). Ok, so not totally throw them out, but not really deal with them either. And I changed the question to be more pointed:
In the Disney Classic version, how long did Sleeping Beauty sleep after pricking her finger on that dreadful spinning wheel?
The results? Well, a graph shows it best...
As you can see there were actually the same number of people who saw this version of the question, 39. It answers my question...people are wrong. The correct answer? Less than a day.
That's right folks...12.8% of the people who took my more specific survey got the answer correct. Sorry folks! I blame your lame upbringings: didn't watch enough Disney! Or maybe you didn't pay enough attention...either way, you make me sad...
I guess there is some defense for a few of you...Sleeping Beauty does sleeps for 100 years in the Grimm's version. Thinking about that, I guess I could look at both surveys--not looking for a correct answer, but looking at the way-wrong answers. 61.5% of the first survey takers thought it was 100 years in the first survey, with the 12.8% correct from the second survey...that gives us 62.8% with the way wrong answer. Maybe that's a little better, but you people still make me sad...
For those of you out there who still disagree with me about the Disney version, go watch it! I promise you, she sleeps for less than a day. Now the evil fairy (yes, she's a fairy, not a witch) does tell a story in which the prince is locked up for 100 years before he can wake her up, but it is only a story. Some people asked me how the vines grew up around the castle so fast...it's called magic people! Evil fairy needed to impede the prince.
At any rate, less than a day! And you people need to embrace your inner child more...Rachel, I call for more Disney in our fellowship.
And on an unrelated note, are all Disney fairy tales french? I mean really...sleeping beauty, beauty & the beast, little mermaid, i'm sure there are more, but those are the only 3 i've watched in the past couple of days...
