Cheesecake Feed! and stress...

So, it’s only been about two weeks sense my last post…yippie, I’m getting better again!

Sense then not much had happened. Gina’s birthday was that week so we gave her a happy cocoa that was really great. She, like me, requested a “dirty” cake, so Alison and I got to work making her cupcakes. It was quite entertaining! We found Karma Sutra diagrams on the internet and drew little pink and blue stick figures on the top of each cupcake. It took a really long time, but it was worth it, most everyone really liked them.

Last weekend was Family Weekend. There were parents crawling everywhere! The only sad thing about it was that Amy and I weren’t able to do our weekly dinner together. Her dad was in town so she went out to dinner with him. Alison’s (the one who doesn’t live on my hall, but who spends most of her time here) parents came up and wanted to take her friends out to dinner [go parents], so Chris and I when out with her to this little Indian place at Porter. It was really good and we had a good time. The whole night was kinda interesting. Chris has met them before, but I haven’t, so they were asking him all these questions about how is stuff is going and me all these questions about what I’m doing. I felt like three quarters of the night were us talking about ourselves and the rest was small talk, it was strange, but fun. I guess that’s probably what it’s like going out with people’s parents who you don’t know.

This weekend is over already, I’ve already had all the fun I’m going to have. *tear* oh well, I’ve got a lot of work to do for next week.

Friday night I went out with people from ROTC. I headed over to the Det. [ROTC office] to redo the Cadet Photo Board [I’ll post pictures when I get some] because we weren’t all in the same uniform when I did it the first time.** I also needed to add a couple pictures to the outside Air Force board [I’ll post pictures of this one too, it’s better anyway]. I’m so happy about that board, it looks so good! The Cadre [the actual Air Force Officers who keep everything working smoothly and/or teach our classes] really like it and have voiced their option to several people, who have told me. That makes me really really really happy because I’ve spent many hours on it and I really like the way it looks. Also, come to find out, they’ve not been happy with what any one else has done with it ever (ok with in at least the past 4-5 years, but that’s practically forever here!). *happy dance* Anyway, back to my point, Friday I went to see a movie with some other cadets, it was called Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag, about a training program (mostly for fighter pilots) that happens at Nellis Air Force Base (where I will be going for the base visit in early December). The movie was played at the Omni Theater at the Museum of Science, you know, those theaters that are basically giant domes that they project the move onto. It was awesome!

After that I came back to my hall and started preparing for the Cheesecake Feed with my co-sponsors, Gina and Alison. They had already done about 4 (3 plus mini cupcake ones) while I was at the movie. So we got to work. We made 9 full-size cheesecakes and a ton of the mini cupcake ones! Here’s the menu:
Plain Cupcakes, several batches
New York Cheesecake (generic recipe from online because we had 3 extra things of cream cheese)
Lemon and White Chocolate
Pumpkin
The Opryland Hotel's Upside Down Jack Daniels Double Chocolate Cheesecake
Cheescake
, that I renamed Triple Chocolate Upside Down Jack Daniels Cheesecake because I couldn’t remember the name
Amaretto
Chocolate Chip (from my Everything Chocolate Cookbook)
Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake
Oreo (not really cheesecake, but has cream cheese in it) Cake

We were all really dragging by the time that we got the last ones in the ovens, but they seemed to have a harder time with the hour than I was, so they went to bed and I waited up to pull them out when they were done. I didn’t get in bed until Obscene hour in the morning (yeah, that one that Daddy wakes up at sometimes, 5am!). It was ok though, because I didn’t wake up until noon!

Ok, I set my alarm to wake me up at noon because I had a date. A date with Jackie to finish painting my room! AND IT’S DONE!! I’m so happy! With any luck my camera will be charged later today and I’ll be able to post pictures! It took us five hours to finish less than a third of the room! (I’ll specify in the pics) At any rate, it’s done now!

After that it was time for the Amy and Liz relaxation dinner! Alison, Alison’s little sister, and Gina accompanied us to The Longhorn Steakhouse. I had Prime Rib, it was pretty good, too fatty for my taste, but still good. The only problem was that Alison was really stressed about getting back in time for the Cheesecake Feed (not that they’re going to start without us, it’s our feed!). I understand where she was coming from, but I was able to ignore the fact that it was driving me crazy that it was going to be late because this is our force-ourselves-to-relax-and-forget-about-the-things-that-we-have-to-do dinner. It really ruined the whole thing and I’m really mad about it. (I know, I know, relax Liz, it’s not the end of the world) But I guess it’s just that I shouldn’t become more stressed out from our time-out dinner and the fact that I am really gets to me.

Moving on! Cheesecake Feed was awesome! Everyone loved it, even though it was a few minutes late. (and no one cared that it was a few minutes late, it was free really good cheesecake!) Sometime in the middle, when about half the cheesecake was gone and people were going back for seconds, Alison and I started kinda yelling at each other in the kitchen. She made a comment about people waiting and my comment that people wouldn’t just be waiting for us.*** (She’d been ignoring the word “just,” I mean yeah, they’re like sharks when it comes to a feed, of course they’ll be circling when it’s supposed to start, but it’s not like they’ll just be waiting, we’re smart people, we can talk to each other, entertain ourselves for a few minutes while we wait for the free cheesecake.) This was my last straw for the night, I left. I put my cheesecake in my room and went down to third, and stayed there for a few (5+) hours. I feel bad about not helping them clean up, but I just couldn’t deal with it. I still can’t.

Third was fun. I went to 7-11 with Cameron and Nick and sat with JennD while she made cookies for her boyfriend’s mom & sister (they were visiting) and watched Fight Club with Amrita in Isaac’s room and generally relaxed.

Now I’m back in my room, getting ready to tool, ick. I think that Amy and I are going to go for a walk because we both still need to relax a little (ok, a lot).

**The Cadet Photo Board is a board that is inside the Hanger [Cadet hangout room] that has a mug shot of each cadet arranged in a very similar way to the Cadet Chan of Command. You can see our Fall 2005 Organizational Chart, if you would like.

***Apparently Alison thought it was “more or less in the good-natured argument category.” Understandable, except that she wasn’t even attempting to listen to what I was saying and that really upsets me.
